P I L Starts Off with a Bang, Then  Rain

 

June 5, 2006- The Skagit Eagles kicked off the start of the summer season on a high note this week with an 8-1 win over the Portland Titans on Friday night followed by a 9-2 win over the Tacoma Cardinals on Saturday evening.

     Eagle’s slugger, Cory Wiltshire drove a 2 run home-run over the right field fence in the 3rd inning while Tyson Jaquez of Western Nevada Community College added a 3-run triple in the 7th to seal the deal. Tyson Jaquez’s Western Nevada teammate, Justin Garcia, threw 7 solid innings and picked up 10 Ks to secure his first win of the season.  

      The Eagle’s bats stayed hot as they defeated the Tacoma Cardinals 9-2 and improved to 2-0 on the season. Central Washington University outfielder and The PIL’s Player of the Week, Justin Marshall had 3 hits, a walk, 2 RBIs, topped off with a stolen base. Cory Wiltshire added 3 more hits and 4 RBIs to his previous night’s performance. Jesse Schmidt threw 7 full innings, striking out 6 and giving up just1 run on 6 hits. Darren Westergard picked up the save, giving up 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 3.

        The Portland Titans followed their Friday night beat-up with a 7-6 extra-innings, heart-breaking loss to the Everett Merchants on Saturday night.
