The PIL’s Bats are Hot!
(June 26, 2006) On
Wednesday evening The Skagit Eagles beat the Langely Blaze 5 to 1 in
front of an enthusiastic crowd of campers who attended The Skagit
Valley Community College Baseball coaches’ annual summer baseball
camp this week. Pitchers, Justin Garcia, Sean Sargent, Steve Hupper,
and Keith Noe all contributed to the win, holding Langley to just
one run. Brad Carlson, going 3 for 4, and Tyson Jaquez who going 2
for 3 with 2 RBI led the Eagle offense.
That same night the Seaside
Wildcats pounced on the Pacific Javelinas, crushing them 13-3. Adam
White’s 2-run home run and Rob Lloyd’s 4 for 5 performance with 3
singles and solo homerun sealed the deal on the win.
Pacific bounced back from the loss by
defeating the Portland Titans 11 to 5 on Thursday night. The Javs
broke open a 5-5 tie in the 9th inning by a go ahead RBI single by
Mike McNally and later a pinch hit double that scored 2 by Justus
Kimbrough. Bryan Goff pitched a complete 9-inning game to pick up
the win.
The Skagit Eagles dropped a hard fought
game in 11 innings on Friday to Seaside. The winning run reached
third on a throwing error back to the pitcher in the 11th
inning and two batters later, a game winning single ended the
matchup.
The Javelinas picked up two wins at
Everett on Saturday. In Game 1 Chris Baker threw a complete 7
innings with 7 Strikeouts and allowing only 2 walks. Offensive
support came with a 2nd inning Home Run by Jake Evans and
a 2-run single by James Mannion in the 7th. In Game 2 Carey Crain
grabbed the win and Hap Paurden got the save. The Javs bats were
scorching as Joel Johnson hit a Homerun and 2 singles, Zack Parnell,
a double, triple, and 2 RBI, and Blake Mounce had 3 singles for 3
runs, an RBI, and 3 stolen bases.
The Eagles split games with Seaside on
Saturday. In Game 1, Zach Adam hit a 3 run home-run in the top of
the 7th to give Skagit the lead and eventual win. In Game 2, some
timely hitting and 3 home-runs gave Seaside game two 15-4.
The Eagles then traveled to Portland to
face the Javelinas on Sunday and picked up two wins; 10-4 and 15-2.
In Game 1, Steve Hupper threw a complete game and Zach Adam hit
another 3 run homer in the seventh to put the game out of reach for
the Javelinas. The Javs’ Designated Hitter, Marcos Quintero was 3
for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. Zach Adam hit another homerun in
game 2 along with Jon Buettner. Javelinas’ Joel Johnson hit a solo
HR in the bottom of the 4th. Logan McDonald drove in the only other
Jav run that day.
The Seattle Studs were stellar this week,
beating the Tacoma Cardinals on Tuesday night 8 to 3, and going 3-3
this weekend, beating the Portland Titans 4 to 2, 9 to 5 and 5 to
4.
