After the haze from the fireworks
died down from the night before, the Javelinas and the Titans had an explosive display of their own. Pacific shut out Portland 4-0 in their first match-up of the July 5th’s double-header. Javs’ Adam Tate pitched 6 strong innings with Brian Goff wrapping up the win. James Mannion was the hitting hero with a double and a Homerun. In the second game the Titans exploded with 8 runs in the final 2 innings of the game, defeating the Javs 12-5. Trevor Womack led the Titan 15 hit attack with a single, a double and a homerun, just a triple away from the cycle.
The PIL was a traveling show this week as the Seaside Wildcats headed down to California, finishing off their trip 5-2, improving their overall record to 17-12. They represented the northwest, beating the Monterey Baysox, the Salinas Valley Packers in 11 innings, the San Luis Obispo Blues and the Novato Knicks.
While the Wildcats were down south, The Langely Blaze, Everett Merchants, Skagit Eagles and Seattle Studs traveled north to compete among seven teams in the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament in BC, Canada.
Seattle faced off against Everett, shutting them out 2-0. Nick Cebula was the well-earned winning pitcher, striking out 10 and giving up only one hit and one walk in his 7 complete innings pitched.
Skagit fell to the San Diego Stars 3-14, but the bounced back to beat the Everett Merchants 8-5.
The Studs then went up against the San Diego Stars, edging a 2-1 win. Nate Kuhns got the win and Brian Johnson recorded his 8th save on the season.
The Skagit Eagles had another fall to the Westminster Royals 4-5, who the Seattle Studs went on to play in the championship game.
Studs’ Clay Johnson secured the win over the Royals and the title of the KIBT.
Studs’ Shawn Lindsey was named the MVP of the tournament as his offensive display included 6 hits in three games including a double, a homerun, 3 RBI, 4 stolen bases and 6 runs scored.
