A Scorching Week in the PIL

         In non-league play last Monday night, the Skagit Eagles took on the Skagit Sox and pummeled them 15-3. The next night the Eagles added another win to their record, but it was a close one. Skagit edged the Langley Blaze 5-4 with the help of Nate Rylaarsdam’s offensive display. Rylaarsdam drove in 3 of Skagit's 5 runs, hit a 2-run homerun in the 4th inning, and then hit the game winning single in the bottom of the 10th to bring around Brad Carlson. Keith Noe picked up the win for the Eagles. In another non-league match up, the Pacific Javelinas were successful in beating the Central Oregon Bucks twice on Tuesday night. Blake Mounce and Grayson Motsch led the Javs attack with 2 RBIs apiece as the Javs prevailed over the Central Oregon Bucks 5-1 in the first game. Addam Tate pitched five strong innings to pick up the victory. In the second game the Javelinas exploded put 7 runs up in the 4th inning to break open a close game. Joel Johnson contributed a single and two doubles to the Javs eight hit attack.

 

    Travis Galbraith gave up only 2 hits in five innings to pick up the win. The Javs won their third of three against the Central Oregon Bucks on Wednesday night. Hap Purden extended his scoreless inning streak to 23 2/3 with a 1 hit shutout against the Bucks. The Javs scored their lone run on a 1 out single by Logan McDonald in the 5th inning. Wednesday night, the Seaside Wildcats were victorious over the Portland Titans with a 8-3 win, while the Seattle Studs beat up on the Triple Play on Thursday with a 14-4 defeat.

 

       The three game series between the Skagit Eagles and the Portland Titans started on Friday night with a 7-2 Skagit victory. Sean Sargent threw 6 innings giving up one run on four hits. Brad Carlson went 3-3 with a homerun, double, and 3 RBI's. Justin Marshall contributed with 3 singles on the night. Jesse Schmidt earned his 5th win of the summer, while Keith Noe earned his 5th save, closing down the 7th inning. Offensively, Matthews homerun in the 5th inning sparked a rally leading to 3 additional runs. Game two of the double header was lead by Cory Wiltshire and Tyson Jaquez both hitting homeruns. Jeff James got in on the action going 2-4 with 2-runs scored. The Seattle Studs trudged on successfully this weekend, going 3-0 against the Seaside Wildcats. On Friday night the Studs beat Seaside 4-2. Seattle’s Shawn Lindsey’s bat has yet to cool down as he was 2-4 with 1 RBI and scoring 1 run. Chad Dias was 3-4 and Tony Cappucilli contributed with a homerun and 2 RBIs.

 

      On Saturday, in game one of the doubleheader, the Studs’ Nate Khuns shutout Seaside 5-0. Tony Cappucilli hit an encore homerun from the night before. In game 2 of the day Shawn Lindsey hit a homerun, Chad Dias hit a double and a homerun, and Peter Varon and Sean Rockey each hit doubles to contribute to the 11-7 win for the Studs.

 

    Seaside’s Dan Lloyd hit an impressive triple for Seaside, but Seattle’ Clay Johnson held on to the win. Everett swept the Titans in Sunday’s doubleheader, winning game one 9-1 and game two 11-4. The Langley Blaze went 2-3 in their series against Pacific. Chris Webber was the winning pitcher of game one, coming out on top 7-2. Pacific bounced back on Saturday morning in game 2 of the series winning 6-3, but the day ended in favor of the Blaze with a score of 6-1.
