LILLIBRIDGE HITS HISTORIC HOMER
April 11, 2011 - Chicago, IL: Brent Lillibridge made some history with the bat against the Oakland Athletics and Dallas Braden on Monday. With two outs in the fifth, Lillibridge lined Braden's first pitch into the left-center-field stands for his first home run of the season and the fourth of his career. It was the 10,000th home run hit in the 112 years of Chicago White Sox baseball.
“That day I got the start against Dallas Braden, and me and Adam Dunn were actually talking about it: ‘Hey, whoever gets the first home run today gets 10,000,’” Lillibridge said on Wednesday. “I was like, ‘All right, I’ll get it,’ just totally joking. And I ended up getting it.”
Heading into the game, Lillibridge had just 9 at bats on the young season.
“In the American League, it’s a tough thing being a bench player,” Lillibridge said on the Danny Mac Show. “Especially not being in a full rotation. My role, so far, has just been against lefty starters, which is fine. Just getting in there once a week, just to contribute, whether or not it’s going to be more defense than anything, playing once a week is a tough thing in this league.”
The Everett, WA native hit .367 in 2003 for the Seattle Studs in Pacific International League competition. He played for the University of Washington for three seasons, where he was named to the All-Pac 10 Conference Team for three straight seasons, before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 4th round (121st overall) of the 2005 amateur entry draft.

Founded in the fall of 1992, the PIL is considered by many to be the premier Summer Collegiate Baseball league in the Northwest. Most PIL players are NCAA eligible and are unpaid in order to maintain their eligibility. The PIL is different from many other summer collegiate baseball leagues in that the league also allows former professionals and college graduates to participate.
