PIL MORNS THE DEATH OF CAM CHRISTIAN
OCTOBER 16, 2011 - SEATTLE, WA:  Cam Christian, a member of the 2010 Everett Merchants and a senior at Seattle University, died early Sunday morning after being involved in a car accident on Highway 2 near Priest River, Idaho.

According to news reports, Christian was driving westbound when police say he evasively steered off the road for an unknown reason. He reportedly drove through the eastbound lane and off the road, at which point his car overturned. Police say alcohol was not a factor, and Christian was wearing a seatbelt.

Christian, 22, transferred to Seattle U in the fall of 2010 from Spokane Falls Community College and made 14 appearances on the mound for the Redhawks during the 2011 season, including one start. He also appeared in seven other games as a pinch hitter or position player. He was majoring in history within the College of Arts and Sciences.

A 2007 graduate of Auburn High School, Christian earned all-state honors in baseball as a junior and helped the Trojans reach the state championship game during his senior season. He also earned two varsity letters in football.

Services will be held at The Auburn Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 am. A memorial fund has been set up at Valley Bank, in Auburn, WA 1101 D ST NE, for youth baseball camps and baseball equipment for young players.

Founded in the fall of 1992, the PIL is considered by many to be the premier Summer Collegiate Baseball league in the Northwest. Most PIL players are NCAA eligible and are unpaid in order to maintain their eligibility. The PIL is different from many other summer collegiate baseball leagues in that the league also allows former professionals and college graduates to participate.
