BURNABY'S LEON BOYD NAMED
2011 PWB PLAYER OF THE YEAR
NOVEMBER 19, 2011 - LANGLEY, BC:  The B.C. Senior Baseball Association has announced the Leon Boyd of the Burnaby Bulldogs has been named the 2011 PWB Player of the Year.  In addition to playing in the Pacific International League, he also played World Baseball Challenge, the Canadian Provincials / Nationals and the Grand Forks International Tournament.  Combined, he had a record of 10-1 with 81 strike-outs in 77 innings pitched and had an ERA of 1.13.

Recently, he helped the Netherlands become the first European team in 73 years to capture the IBAF World Cup win a 2-1 win over Cuba at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama City, Panama.
Founded in the fall of 1992, the PIL is considered by many to be the premier Summer Collegiate Baseball league in the Northwest. Most PIL players are NCAA eligible and are unpaid in order to maintain their eligibility. The PIL is different from many other summer collegiate baseball leagues in that the league also allows former professionals and college graduates to participate.


He has played professionally in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system as well as professionally oversees. 

Boyd is no stranger to international competition, he has played for the Netherlands’ nation team at the  2006 Intercontinental Cup, the 2007 World Port Tournament, the 2007 European Baseball Championship, the 2007 and 2009 Baseball World Cups, the 2008 Summer Olympics. 
Boyd played college baseball at Treasure Valley CC, Seimoole State CC and then for Armstrong Atlantic State University.  At AASU, he appeared in 34 games and compiled a 3.44 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 115 innings pitched working mainly as a relief pitcher.
