ANDY ATWOOD SIGNS PRO CONTRACT

July 28, 2021 – Everett, WA: Congratulations to Andy Atwood (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) who has signed a professional contract with the Great Falls Voyagers of the independent Pioneer League. Andy appeared in 37 games with the Merchants in 2018 hitting .344. He returned to the team last week, after not being drafted, and went 4-11 in 3 games with a home run and a double.

This past season at UTRGV , Andy was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) First Team. Prior to going to UTRGV, he played two seasons at Oregon State.

During WAC play this year, Atwood hit .362/.439/.630 with eight home runs, eight doubles, one triple, 22 RBI, 31 runs scored and seven stolen bases. In 35 WAC games, he ranked second in the WAC in total bases (80), third in home runs and slugging percentage, tied for sixth in hits (46), ninth in runs scored, and 10th in hitting and on-base percentage. Overall, he hit .341 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI on 70 hits.

He was also an All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament honoree, hitting .368 (7-19) with one home run, one triple, five RBI, six runs scored and one stolen base.

Andy is the second Merchant alumni to sign their first professional contract this year joining Patrick Chung who is playing in the Maverick League.
