Bears come back to beat Senators

Bears use back-to-back five run innings to topple the Thurston County Senators Tuesday night by a score of 13-7

Outside of Ryan Kolisch, Bears’ pitching has been unable to hold down the opposition lately, giving up 29 runs in their past three games not started by him.

The game started along the same trend as the past ones had, with Bears’ starter Trey Siegel only lasting 2.2 innings, giving up five runs (one ER) and walking four opposed to striking out only one.

Casey Manning was the first arm out of the bullpen and pitched brilliantly, hurling 4.1 innings while only allowing two hits, one run and one walk while striking out three, also picking up the win.

The offensive barrage started in the 5th inning, trailing by a score of 6-1, with Sam Trend-Beacom scoring on an error by Senators third baseman Ben Pedigo, followed up by a Chase Hodkinson RBI single scoring Chandler Michalek.

The big hit came when Bears’ left fielder Dillon O’Grady launched one over the left field wall for a three-run shot, tying the game at six. It was O’Grady’s first hit on the season at it could not have come at a better time.

In the sixth inning, the Bears sent 10 batters to the plate and added on five more runs, extending their lead to 11-6.

Trend-Beacom added on to his stellar night in the 7th inning with a solo home run. He would finish the night a single short of the cycle.

This was the best offensive performance of the year so far by the Bears, as ever single starter reached base at least once, with standout performances like Chase Hodkinson (on base four times), Johnny Sage (on base three times), Sam Trend-Beacom (on base five times), Chandler Michalek (on base four times), Matt Stuart (on base two times and barely missed a grand slam), Nolan McCafferty (two singles, should have had three) and Dillon O’Grady (three-run home run).

Chris Glahn and Mason Harris pitched each pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game. This was the third straight scoreless outing for Harris, who has pitched in three straight games.

The Bears will travel to Lacy on Thursday to face the Senators, first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
