The DubSea Fish Sticks captured their first-ever Pacific International League (PIL) championship on Saturday night with a convincing 18–1 win over the Gumberoos. The win took place before a sold-out home crowd at Mel Olson Stadium, nicknamed “The Fryer,” with 1,200 fans packing the stands to witness the historic moment.
The championship marks a turning point for the club, which was rebranded from the Highline Bears by team owner Justin Moser back in 2022. Under the leadership of Head Coach Elliott Cribby, the Fish Sticks ended the season with a 32–9 record, narrowly edging the Seattle Studs for this year’s title. The explosive offensive display in the finale cemented the Fish Sticks as one of the premier summer collegiate clubs in the Pacific Northwest.
The Fish Sticks finished the year with a league-best +166 run differential, averaging 7.26 runs scored per game while limiting opponents to just 3.21 runs per game. DubSea completely disrupted regional pitching staffs on the base paths, finishing as the only club in the league to clear the century mark with 102 stolen bases.
The final standings showcase just how tight the race was, with the historic Seattle Studs applying pressure right up until the final week of the season:
Founded in the fall of 1992, the PIL is considered by many to be the premier Summer Collegiate Baseball league in the Northwest. Most PIL players are NCAA eligible and are unpaid in order to maintain their eligibility. The PIL is different from many other summer collegiate baseball leagues in that the league also allows former professionals and college graduates to participate.
