Merchants win opener at Grand Forks tournament

GRAND FORKS, B.C. — In their first game of the Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament, the Everett Merchants beat the Northwest Honkers 7-4. Jared Maxfield got the win for the Merchants, going six innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (two earned), and striking out four. Patrick Chung was the offensive MVP for the Merchants, going 3-for-5 with three singles and three runs scored.

Jack Sheward also had a great day for the Merchants, he went 2-for-4 with a two-RBI single that helped seal the game as part of a four-run sixth inning. The Merchants will continue play in Grand Forks on Thursday at 4:05 p.m. when they face off with the San Francisco Seals after a bye on Wednesday.
